Softball Update and an Introduction

I know if I say we lost our last game 18-0 you probably wouldn’t expect me to follow that up by saying we’re getting better. But we are. My pitcher has been taking lessons and is much better than she was when we started the season. So good that the other team is now getting pitches to hit. Not so good because my players have never actually had to field a ball before and run around the field like drunk keystone cops, but at least the other team is earning their runs and we’re not walking them all in.

Now, to the new man in my life. He’s everything I wanted. Affectionate, loving, devoted. He has beautiful green eyes, is adorably playful, and totally healthy except for a few ear mites which we’re working on. Yes, that’s right, I’m in love with a kitten.

May I introduce, Bumblebee.

Is he not the cutest thing you ever did see? He’s nine weeks old, weighs just over two pounds, and really is everything I say above. He sleeps all night, curled up in my bed, wakes me at exactly six every morning for breakfast, and sits in the windowsill waiting for us to come home every afternoon. We’ve been together for one week and I already can’t imagine life without him.

Kiddo is as much in love as I am so it’s going to be hard when she has to head half way across the country in a month to spend the summer with her dad. Someone asked if she was taking him with her and my instant response was “NO!”

Anyone else have any recent additions to the family they want to brag about? Any kitty or puppy stories? Hope everyone is having a good Memorial Day weekend!

Oh my goodness! Bumblebee is adorable. And I love that name. Congratulations on the new addition to your family!

Hey there, Tessa! Thanks for dropping by. He is a cutie, isn’t he? No matter what is going on, one look from that adorable little face and I can’t help but smile.

The people who had him had named him Bumblebee but said we could of course change it. Kiddo and I love the movie Transformers and Bumblebee is our favorite character, so we were happy to keep it.

After a dozen years, I’m back in the cat lovers club.

I grew up in a family of cat lovers and feel sure that you’re doing the right thing Terri.
And you definitely won’t get any mice in that bed with bumblebee in it!

Living in the country, in a large drafty house, the cats were invaluable in keeping mice at bay.

I have fond memories of when the Momma cat ‘smudge’ once carried three of her kittens into the living room, one at a time. She plonked each of them in my lap for safe keeping. When she returned she was carrying a large mouse (dead thank goodness!)

I remember feeling very humble that a creature would trust me to look after her young while she went hunting!

I imagine that bumblebee is a guy’s name though.

Do you still have the pet guinea pig?

  4. terrio says:

Q – Lucky for me, mice are not an issue with or without my feline centry. That is a lot of faith for that mama cat to trust you with her brood. Since animals are pretty good judges of character, I think that says something good about you. 🙂

We do still have the hamster. Grace and Bumblebee seem to like each other. She isn’t afraid of him and he doesn’t seem to want to eat her. He’s more fascinated by her than anything else. Bumblebee has noticed the bird, but so far hasn’t figured out how to climb up to the cage and really check her out.

  5. Janga says:

Awww, Terri, Bumblebee looks like such a sweetie. You better keep a close eye on the bird though. My mother had a cat and a bird once, but when Crabapple the cat grew past kittenhood, one dark night Orpheus the bird ceased to be. 🙁

We are petless for the moment. Our Aussie Skye died several weeks ago, and we’re not ready for another pet quite yet. We do have a visiting Saint Bernard because my nephew’s apartment complex just started requiring a huge pet deposit and he’s not sure he will renew his lease in July. So Indi is our guest for two months. She’s a darling–but so big!

He’s SO CUTE!!! What great pictures–I wish I was that photogenic!

Janga – I’m sorry for your loss. I work hard not to think about any of my (now three!) pets leaving me. Funny for a person who for years didn’t have any pets at all.

Chesney the parakeet hangs away from pretty much all surfaces so it would be hard for him to get up to her then figure out how to get the cage open. If he managed to get inside (as I’ll likely wire the door shut), he’d have to catch her. She freaks at the slightest provocation so I doubt he’d have an easy time of it. LOL!

Hellie – Notice there are not pictures of he and I together. There’s a reason for that.

Congrats on the softball, Ter. Isn’t it fun to see improvement? We’re having coaching issues. We’ve known this guy for years and have been on his team before and really like him, but he’s not a great coach. He told the kids last weekend he was setting up the batting order dependent on who got on base – not a real great incentive for those girls who have a hard time hitting.

Bumblebee is cute. The DH’s favorite – a tabby. He keeps threatening to bring one home. I told him definitely no more 4 legged creatures in this house or the 2 legged ones were being thrown out starting with him. I’m not a huge cat fan but who can resist a kitten?! Very cute.

Janga, sorry for your loss! 🙁 Very cool about the St. Bernard, though. That was one of the breeds we were looking at before we settled on our Old English Sheep Dog. I just couldn’t get past the drool. LOL

  9. terrio says:

Ah, Irish, you know you want a kitten. How can you resist that cuteness? Right now mine is playing with the hamster. Well, he’s trying to anyway. I’ve wired the cage shut. 🙂

I have a couple of players that push my nerves a bit, not really team players, but we’ll keep working and make it through. At this point, I just want one win. That’s all. I’m hoping we can get it this Sunday due to the team we’re playing.

Oh, and this Sunday is also our team pictures. NOT looking forward to that. I’ll have to pull the visor down low.

  10. I’m way late, but so glad I saw the new addition! I love cats, but I’m allergic. I’ve had them as pets, and I’m fine if I never touch them, which kind of defeats the purpose. So after 4 kids, numerous dogs, cats, a runaway rabbit, fish, etc., we are now footloose and fancy-free. Love the name and he is sooo cute!

  11. Elyssa Papa says:

I am later than anyone. But Bumblebee is the cutest name and cat ever.

  12. TerriOsburn says:

Thanks for coming by no matter how late, ladies. And Bumblebee is so much bigger now. He’s five months old now and three times the size he is in these pictures.
