Music Monday – Unrecognizable

In all this new music I’ve found through kiddo, I’ve also found some new versions of songs from my youth. These Pop Punk bands cover older songs, putting their own spin on them. It can be anything. Punk Goes Hip Hop or Punk Goes Holiday (which is awesome and you’ll be getting some of those in the coming weeks.)

Usually I’ll find myself singing along and then wonder “How do I know this song?” Another couple lines and I realize it’s because I’ve heard the original version a few hundred times. But every now and then, the new arrangement is so different, I have a hard time naming the tune. (Loved that show when I was little.)

This is one of those versions. Since the video link includes the title of the song, I can’t make this a quiz to see if you recognize it. But do give it a listen. I’d be interested to hear if you’d have figured it out without the help.

Do you like when old songs are made new? Or would you rather the originals be left alone?

I can’t listen – at work! I don’t mind remakes of songs. One really good one was Love is All Around by Wet Wet Wet – originally by the Trogs. Of course, the remake is old now! LOL!

You need to listen when you get home. This really is a fun one. I love when old songs are given a new twist like the way they were done in Moulin Rouge. So long as the original isn’t butchered, I’m in.

Normally I don’t like remakes but that was awesome! 🙂 I think it would have taken me forever to figure it out tho if the lyrics weren’t there because it was so different from the original.

Isn’t that cool? Considering how many times I’ve heard that song in my life, I love that it sounds brand new.

I know me too! My hubby is a huge 80s fan so I let him listen to it. He agrees that it sounds great and like a new song!

You should check out some other songs on the CD. It’s called Punk Goes Pop and they cover new and old stuff.

I forgot! Will check it out tonight.

I like the remake better than the original, which I didn’t really like at all!

  9. Terri says:

The original was a huge part of my formative years, so there’s a nostalgia about it. But I LOVE this version. I never would have thought the song could sound that good.

    I liked “True Colors” better.

Oh yes. That one is the true Cindy classic.
