Music Monday for the Veterans

Since my first Music Monday falls on Veteran’s Day, this one had to be special. As a former country music DJ, I’m familiar with plenty of patriotic songs focusing on the men and women who serve our country, but this one encapsulates all of our vets. It also gives me goose bumps and makes me cry every time I hear it.

Consider this your tissue-on-hand warning. I give you Trace Adkins and Arlington.

To all the veterans, past and present, living and deceased, thank you for your service.

A beautiful tribute, Terri. I’m saddened by the fact that we have the need of a national cemetery but grateful that our heroes have this sacred place for their eternal rest.

In August, I attended the burial of a friend at Arlington. I’d been there before and appreciated it’s beauty but never more so than when my friend was laid to rest with full military honors. I now have a new appreciation for this hallowed ground; this place of peace and serenity that wraps its arms around its heroes who breathe no more and those who come to honor them.

I haven’t been since I was 16, PJ, but that memory stays with me. And this song always brings it back.

Great tribute, Ter! I’ve been to Arlington twice and stood in awe twice. I got tingles down my spine both times I came upon the rows upon rows of white markers. It is an amazing place – so much history. We took the kids the second time we went and they were upset we left it to the end and ran out of time.

I’ve also seen Trace Adkins perform this live and it’s very moving.

Irish, I doubt I could hold it together while seeing this song performed live. I have the video of him performing it on the awards show, with the military choir behind him. Gets me every time.
